ADP Connection Issue

In the Data Link properties of my ADP file under the connection tab where
the Test Connection button lives the option whether to "Use Windows NT
Integrated Security" or "Use a specific user name and password:". When the
first option "Use Windows NT Integrated Security" is selected and the Test
Connection Button is selected the Test Connection succeeds. If the second
option is selected "Use a specific user name and password:" and the same
user credentials are used as who is logged on the workstation (in this case
myself) I get the error message "Test Connection Failed because of an error
in initializing provider. Login failed for user 'username'. I have used both
domain\username and just username and get the same error.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks in Advance

Typical connection problem: the user name and password refers here to a
SQL-Server login and not to a window logging account.

The authentification mode of SQL-Server or MSDE must be set to Mixed and you
must create a proper SQL-Server login account.
