Adobe Reader X

Anyone been unable to uninstall the reader or install the last update?

I get an error 1402 and it seems like a permission thing. I am the
administrator with all privileges and have had no problem installing
any other programs.

The registry entries are there but am not able to modify them with the
installer.

I really don't need Adobe Reader X as I use Foxit reader by default
but every once in a while I run into a download site which must have
the Adobe reader no matter what...usually a government site.

I don't think you can install the last update - I assume you want to go
backwards to when you had no problems. One way is to use "System
Restore" function of XP. This may or may not fix the problem.

To uninstall Adobe Reader completely, you can use CCleaner. This tool
can uninstall the reader completely and clear any remnants of registry
entries.

However, I am surprised that you are having problems uninstalling it
using Windows Add/Remove thing. This is normally quite effective except
that registry entries are still left but these don't cause any major
problems.

I got tired of Adobe's bloatware quite some time ago and gave PDF-XChange
Viewer a try, and have been using it ever since. I am yet to find a web site
it doesn't work on (including IRS.gov, SSA's sites, and Medicare's numerous
sites). Might be worth a try for you, too.

No, the installer says if there are problems to uninstall Adobe Reader
if the update doesn't install. Well neither the update or the
uninstall works. I have other programs that will "dynamite" the reader
out if need be. Thanks.
