hope you all had a nice weekend

have a new issue; in trying to view some videos on cnn & msnbc.com, it says
i need adobe flash player, so i follow the onscreen instructions but it's
not working.

i have clicked on download, then the yellow bar pops open, which i click on
& say yes, then "run" on the next window, but nothing happens. have tried it
w/ the browser open, then closed & nothing.

i go to their support center, & it says to use their uninstaller, which i
do, then start fresh, & all that's in the add/remove is the reader 9.1 &
adobe air.

any ideas ?

many thanks

In your other thread, you mentioned you have SpywareBlaster. Go into
Tools and then Flash Killer. You should see a box next to "Disable and
block Macromedia (or Adobe) Flash in Internet Explorer." Is it checked?
If yes, uncheck it!

daave, thanks as it is unchecked. & tried both cnn & msnbcs websites again &
still says i need to update my version of adobe flash. i also went to
filehippo.com & tried to d/l it from there & still not working.

well, now it seems to be downloading properly; it's taking some 3-4 minutes,
not the 10 seconds it did the prior attempts. if not, i'll post again, if
so, this thread will be done - thanks again. it's odd as the only thing
different is i did open the spyware blaster>tools, but the box was not
checked !

Dallas

well, spoke too soon as my aim was off as it was adobe reader not flash, so
i did it again, on flash this time & it took 30 seconds, total & i got a
box, saying "completed" so i opened the details & pasted below, if this
helps any.

Delete file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\install.log
Output folder: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
Execute: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\uninstall_activeX.exe"
Extract: Flash10b.ocx
Extract: FlashUtil10b.exe
Registering: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash10b.ocx
Created uninstaller:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\uninstall_activeX.exe
Completed

thanks

and this is what i see on the cnn video page:

"
This CNN.com feature is optimized for Adobe Flash Player version 8 or
higher.

You are currently using Flash Player 0

"

now instead of this i see "adobe flash player 10 active x", so maybe i can
try & install it again ? i'll let you know.

this attempt, it seemed to be loading & got about a 1/3 of the way & it said
"failed to install"

in looking at the add/remove page, i see something called capicom & checked
wikipedia - below - could this be the source of the recent issues. both with
this flash update & the bank site ? most likely not, but wanted to check as
it does say it has been discontinued.

thanks

"
CAPICOM
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CAPICOM is a discontinued ActiveX control created by Microsoft to help
expose a select set of Microsoft Cryptographic Application Programming
Interface (CryptoAPI) functions through Microsoft Component Object Model
(COM). It was intended to enable every environment that supports ActiveX to
use Microsoft Cryptographic technologies, including web pages that are
opened with Microsoft Internet Explorer or any other web browser that
supports ActiveX.[1]

CAPICOM can be used to digitally sign data, inspect, verify and display
their digital signature and/or digital certificate, add or remove
certificates to or from the certificate stores, and finally, to encrypt or
decrypt data.[1]"

Just click on it Dallas. The site needs it and will install it for the site open.
Each and every time you need to open that site it will ask for it. This is normal

thanks peter, but 2 things; it is not downloading into my computer - don't
see it in add/remove & 2, i never had to do this in the past. thanks again &
hope you're doing well

What kind of Windows XP account do you run with? Is it "Limited" or are
you a "Computer Administrator"? If you're not sure, go to:

Control Panel | User Accounts

Dallas

ok, i messed up as i had to resize the screen cap & i did something wrong.
hate gadwins print screen ever since i updated it - i crop what i want
captured, then downsize it to the right, but it still comes out a very, very
large file, that oe has issues with as it won't go thru to be posted, or
emailed.

maybe i should start over completely w/ the adobe programs - do i need to
delete the adobe 9 reader ? nothing i do is working & can't access many
sites i never had any previous problems with. and cant figure out why this
arbitrarily happening

as a last attempt tonight, i went to manage add ons & for some reason, the
shockwave flash object was disabled. so i enabled it, tried again & it
worked. but not sure how that got into disabled as i did nothing in there to
change it
