My daughter wanted some cache files deleted from her computer that she
discovered via Nortons, but she couldn't do so. I told her it wasn't
important, but she insisted. So I logged off and tried to log on as
ADMINISTRATOR, but neither no password, nor the passwords she could think of
worked.

But several family members had administrator privileges, some without passwords.
I didn't see how to reset administrator password.

What should I recommend for her to set up privileges for family members? How
does she reset ADMINISTRATOR password?

Howard;
Reboot to Safe Mode:
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
Log in to any account with Administrator access.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select Administrator.
From there you can change the password.

The easy way is to log on using any account with administrator privileges.
Then click start, run, type control userpasswords2. Select the account that
needs fixing and click reset password. It's a beautiful thing.

I don't think that works in Home Edition.

In fact it doesn't work in Pro either!
