Hey. I'm sure this has been asked a few times before but I
figure I'll ask again.

I have a toshiba laptop that came preinstalled with windows
XP. I put linux on the computer a little while ago and i am
doing a dual boot. Now i want to get rid of linux because i
need the space and i can use linux on one of my other
computers if i want to. So my problem is that if i get rid
of linux i can no longer boot windows. At least i think i
cant. I have been searching the web and i can find two
solutions. one is run fdisk with fdisk /mbr. The other is
to run the repair console from the windows CD. When i do
that i have to put in my administrator password, but there
is a glitch in microsoft where if it was preinstalled the
administrator password will never be right. So after
looking around for a while i got to the microsoft article
telling me that i have to get a hotfix from microsoft
(re:Q308402). I called microsoft and basically the support
guy, Vijay, told me there is no hotfix related to Q308402
so i can either pay $35 to talk to a tech or post here. I
chose to post here, so if anyone can help, that would be
awesome.

The fix I remember appying to solve the problem was to replace the
spcmdcon.sys file in the hidden folder C:\cmdcons. This was for Recovery
Console installed on the hard drive, though. You could try Googling for it,
or if you like you can repost and I'll attach a copy of the file that I
downloaded for XP Home.
