Administrator Password does not work in XP recovery console.

Hi,

When I booted from my XP disk and when into the repair console I
selected 1: C:\Windows . Then it asked for the admin password. I typed
in the password but it did not work. I use this pw everyday - so I
know it works with a normal XP boot. The only thing I could think off
is that I don't use the user name "Administrator" for the admin
account name but the account is cited as as an admin account in XP.
certainly.

What's going on? Please explain. Much appreciated. XP Pro SP3

The password being requested is that of the built-in _Administrator_
account, not the password for any other administrative user accounts
that you may have created. Unless you deliberately set the
Administrator's password via the Management Console (_not_ the Control
Panel), it's probably still blank. WinXP Pro asks the installer to set
the Administrator's password during installation, but WinXP Home doesn't.

Failing that, Linux-based password cracking utilities abound on the
Internet, freely available to anyone who can use Google.

The default "Administrator" account uses a null or blank password.
There are two distinct & different uses of Administrator in XP. One
is the account the 2nd is the level of privileges account has.
