I would like to go straight to the desktop when I turn on
my computer. CAn I do this without having to go to the
admistrator log-in click button first???
Will this compromise security if I disable this extra
step to getting to my desktop? I am not worried about
other people in my home using my computer.
Thanks

Yes you can do it (see below)
Yes it is a HUGE compromise to your security

The table below describes the values you must set to log on to the computer
automatically. Name is the user name, and Domain is the domain name. To
enable Autologon, you must set the REG_SZ value AutoAdminLogon to 1. Last,
set the value REG_SZ value DefaultPassword in the subkey Winlogon to the
password you want to use to automatically log on to the computer

Setting Name Type Data
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Log on automatically at system startup AutoAdminLogon REG_SZ 0 | 1
User name DefaultUserName REG_SZ Name
Domain DefaultDomainName REG_SZ Domain
