Administrator account

Hi Ross,

1. Reply to your original post, so we know what advice you followed and are
referring to.
2. The Administrator account can not be deleted.
3. If you are meaning that you need to gain access to the Admin account:

On Pro Edition, from the Welcome Screen, press ctrl-Alt-Delete Twice. On
Home, boot to Safe Mode, and logon.

Tip:

TweakUI/Logon/Show Administrator on the Welcome Screen
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Or...

Enable/Disable Administrator on Welcome Screen (Line 5)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

4. If the before hand advice was to NOT to run your system from this
account, they were correct. If this is the case:

You have to be an Administrator to delete an account so you can't simply
delete your one and only admin account without creating another one first.

I posted on here earlier today about a different problem and I tried what
someone suggested, and now I am really stuck.

The person responding to my question told me to create a new User account
with Administrator privileges to try to solve a different problem that I
had. I tried it, and it didn't work. After I did this, I lost my
"Administrator" account which was setup with all my information for my
email, IE, Word, etc. It was like I was starting from scratch! I don't have
access to my email folder and it is critical that I get this back.

How do I "undo" this and delete the user account that I gave Administrator
rights to?? I'd like to get back to having only the "Administrator" user
account on my system so I have all my information back. I've got quite a few
emails to repond to tonight and can't even see my mail folder.

Can anyone help with this???

Thanks,
Ross

Kelly,
Thanks so much for the response. I'm new to the newsgroup thing, and I'm
not sure how to reply to my original post so you will find it. If you look
at the post from me, Ross LaBarbera, at 4:16pm today, you'll see the trail.

I don't want to delete the Administrator account, I guess that is where all
my configuration files are for my applications. I did boot to safe mode to
see the Administrator account, but I couldn't delete the other user account
that I gave Administrator rights....so I couldn't use "Administrator". From
your response, it looks like I might be able to copy my "Administrator"
profile to the new user account that I set up....is that right? I am using
XP Pro and really struggling to get access to my files back....

Thanks for any help you can provide.
Regards,
Ross

Kelly,
I'd love to get this resolved tonight....but, I'm fading fast here in Texas.
I'm not sure I'll be able to find this message tomrorow. I tried to copy
the Administrator profile to the user profile I was logged in on, but that
didn't seem to complete properly.

If you have any ideas, I'll try to track them down in the morning, or maybe
email them to me at (e-mail address removed). I'll pick them up from a different
computer that I haven't corrupted.

Thanks for trying to help.
Ross

You can log on to Administrator if you boot to Safe Mode, when it will
reappear - it is hidden when you create a regular account with Admin
status. It is important NOT to use Administrator for day to day use, or
it is liable to be bust when needed in emergency - it is a reserve
account for that. Log on to it and Export the email material and
address book to files outside Documents and settings; you should be
able to copy the files out of the C:\Documents and
Settings\Administator\Application data and \Local Settings folders into
similar folders in the D & S\Youraccount\ ones

Ross,

You are using OE, so go to View/Current View/Show Replies to my messages.
For further use of the newsgroup, use Watch messages and/or set a message
rule.

As per your reply, you don't want to run daily operation from your system
admin account. The new account with admin privileges can be deleted via
Control Panel/User Accounts. To copy a profile:

Hi there ..

I was just wondering, using "Regedit.exe" how you you enable the
"Administrator Account" in the login option (and set it like that by
default)

Thanks
