Administrator account on XP Home SP3

I have an XP Home SP3 and the Administrator account is unable to install
apps, run system restore, or uninstall apps.

It's full of viruses, spyware, and malware I'm sure. I would like to be able
to try and clean it rather than re-install. Anyone have any ideas on how to
do this with out a re install? I created another account added to the
administrator group but still won't let me install anything or run
antivirus. I am able to run regedit.

Hi Terry,

Reboot into Safe Mode w/Networking (after a restart, press F8
continuously until the menu comes up) . Download, update and run
Malwarebytes and Spybot. Use Google to locate and download them.

The Programs to get are "Spybot Search & destroy" and "Malwarebytes"
The links are below.

If you google "Spybot", you will get a result of a program called "Spybot",
which is a spyware program, not a Spyware remover Program.
You were given the wrongly named Program to download.
EXACT names are so important on the NET.

The advice of going into "Safe Mode with Networking" is correct.
TAP F8 at startup/power on until a list of Stsrtup options appears.
Use the UP Arrow Key to move to SM with NEtworking> hit ENTER

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program.
Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it.
Then SCAN with it.
Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight.

Malwarebytes is as the name says, a Malware Remover!
For the Free version scroll down their page to either download from
Download.com, or Major Geeks.com

Download, install, and update.

Important re: Safe Mode
If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot
the computer, and go into Safe Mode.
To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow
key to get to Safe Mode from list of options, then hit ENTER.
RESCAN your computer with your Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes and Spybot S & D
while in Safe Mode.

If unable to install above Programs in Normal Mode:
Sometimes Trojans, Viruses, Malware, etc stop you installing and/or updating
Programs to remove them.
If that happens, reboot into Safe Mode with Networking (from F8 list of
Startup Options), and install, update and scan from there.

Then this machine is in all probability uncleanable and you are wasting your
time. I understand that you don't want to hear this, but I'm giving you the
practical answer.

You can try creating a Bart's PE with antivirus/antispyware plugins and
scanning from outside the operating system. I'm doubtful that will clean
it, but if you have the skills to do this it can't hurt. Otherwise back up
your data and clean-install Windows.

I don't think the OP will EVER understand what "Stsrtup" options are.

Still trying to get by using "tap" but then following it up with "hit".
Why don't you look up the meaning of "hit" and then admit you don't
know the difference between the two. Even MS uses the term "press",
which you tried to argue with me was wrong. If you don't believe me,
open a command prompt (if you know what that is) and type pause and
press Enter. Tell me what it says.

Why don't you fix your buggy client? You obviously don't know what a
delimiter is and how your buggy client inserts it on your top posted

Problem solved.
I pulled the hard drive out and put it another PC ran antivirus and spyware
remover. Works like a champ. Used Avast and SpyBot S&D.

appear - delimiter or not - when I click REPLY.

Yes, mine too. But that still doesn't resolve the delimiter issue
consistently unless someone remembers to highlight everything whenever
someone is top posting with a sig file using OE/WM. Windows products
are the only ones that insert a delimiter on a top posted reply and then
ignore the delimiter completely when replying.

If someone wants to top post using an MS client, fine. But they need to
understand that a delimiter (when using a sig) is destructive to the
thread when it's placed at the top.
