I had assigned my self as the administrator of my computer. My grandchildren
are continually pressing buttons while my system is on and them have created
a mess. Anyway I have lost control of the administrator. I tried to system
restore and I don't have the authorization to anymore. What can I do. Help.
I need to dissallow all access to my files, folders, and pictures.
Sincerely Kevin

Try booting up in safe mode (press F8 at startup) and log in using the
built-in Administrator account - you'll need to know the password, but if
you have XP home it's probably just blank, and if you have XP Pro it's
something you yourself would have set during installation. You don't mention
what the "mess" is that you need to fix, tho, so what you do after you log
in is hard for me to say....I suppose you could start by going to control
panel | users.

Basics - you need to a) ensure that your user account has admin rights b)
your grandchildren use an account without admin rights and c) you do not
leave your computer logged in as yourself when you are not in front of the
computer. Password protect it, use a pw-protected screen saver, etc. Your
Administrator account should also have a good password on it.
