hello. I am trying to boot from MS XP recovery consel after a crash and it is
asking me for a administrator password which I have no idea what to give. I
never set a password and without that it would not get me anywhere, or would
it? I need your expert opinion as to what to do here to get this going. Many
thanks in advance!!!!!

Try just pressing enter, it may just be a blank password.

Thanks wolf. But I can't do that due to the fact that in parantheses it says
to cancel, press enter. I have already typed admin and nothing.

Recovery Console Password
On many XP installations you can't start the Recovery Console because it
won't recognize your password. This registry edit causes the Recovery Console
not to ask for a password. This works for both XP Home and XP Professional.

Start | Run | Regedit
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole
Set the DWORD SecurityLevel value to 1
Exit Registry and Reboot

A bit late but here is a link to a solution that I have used many times.
