Address Bar - Trouble Clearing

S

SteveO

I've been having trouble clearing out the addresses in my
address bar. I've cleared my history, and that hasn't
done it. I've also tried a couple of the programs that
are supposed to delete the websites I've visited, but
that hasn't done it either. Anyone have any idea how to
force them to clear or what I can do to clear them?

Thanks!

Did you set the number of days to keep History to 0? Did you reboot the
computer after clearing?

Yeah, I did that, but it doesn't make any difference.
I've tried everything that should do it by the book, but
it doesn't. Anyone have any ideas how to erase them? I
know I can turn off autocomplete, which hides them, but
they show back up as soon as Autocomplete is turned back
on.

Steve,
With no IE windows open, try it from Control Panel> Internet Options>
General> Clear History.

These entries might be in the registry in a TypedURLs key:
157729 - How to Clear the History Entries in Internet Explorer:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q157729
DelTypedURL.inf from http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelTypedURL.inf will clear
this list.
EditURLs from http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/index.htm will clear selected
entries.

You might need to delete the damaged History folder- a new one will be
created on restart.
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder in Windows 9x,2K, XP.

Another program might be locking your history.
