Address bar poblem

Hi, when I type a URL into my IE address bar (and press
enter or click go) my browser doesn't respond, yet if I
click a link or go through favourites then I can surf.
Anyone know why this might be?

what exactly are you typing and what exactly happens after you
press enter or click go?
