IE8 occasional address bar is missing

Hi,
I have xp pro with sp3 and all updates. I recently updated to IE8. After the
install, I noticed that very often when I launch the internet, the address
bar is missing and instead I see the background of my desktop. If I quit the
program and restart it fixes itself. I have uninstalled IE 8, reinstalled and
the same problem. I uninstalled IE 8 and IE 7 same after the reinstall. Is
there a way to fix this so I dpon't have to launch the internet 2 times to
see the address bar?
Thanks,
John

Did you follow the "recommendations" of make sure that your IE was
clean of all "add-ons" such has toolbars, spyware security, printer
"tools" and IM add-ons. For some "unknown" reason, IE 8 install
process tends to require that any advanced "add-ons" to not be
installed, especially any advanced security tools.

I have this exact same issue and when the address bar is missing I cannot
open anything in a new tab either, the option is grayed out everywhere. If I
close IE8 and reopen everything does go back to normal, too.
