the address bar history is stored? is there some file with

Do you mean AutoComplete?
IE-Tools-Internet Options-Content-AutoComplete

The information is held encrypted in the Registry.

Jason,
This article covers the typedURLs list:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q157729
This covers the rest of autocompete:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=217148
Some autocomplete functions work from the index.dat file (a hidden file) in
the History folder. You might occasionally have to delete the History folder
to clear the index.dat file.
See: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

A google search for index.dat will turn up additional information.

Hope this helps,
Don

Jason,
They are stored in the Registry:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs]

They are also stored in History\index.dat
