Address Bar - Hangs 5 minutes + to connect

Background: I'm running XP, IE6 SP2..., via DSL. Scanned drive for VIRUS,
SPY, ADWARE - fully "locked down"

QUESTION:
When I type an website address in the Address Bar, IE just "hangs" and can
take a long time before the page/website actually loads. I've had instances
where it's taken 5 minute and more. What's strange is that if I add this
same address to my favorites and then select it, I go immediately to the web
page. No delay, no worry.

I've not had any other performance problems with IE or my system - all
things work great - just this!

I've tried uninstalling IE and reinstalling with no solution. Anyone
encountered this before? I'm at wits end!

Hello Andy,
When I type an website address in the Address Bar, IE just "hangs" and can
take a long time before the page/website actually loads.

Have you tried to delete your address history (internet options>clear
history) and temporary internet files (internet options>delete files)?
Another solutions might be to replace your address bar with my Quero Toolbar
which should not have this kind of problem.

Hi,
This might be an Autocomplete problem- a corrupt History folder.

Login as another user with administrator privileges, or from the machine's
default administrator account (from safe mode) and delete the affected
History folder from Windows Explorer.

You would not be able to delete this History folder when logged in as
yourself- it's "In use." You should be able to delete it from the
Administrator account.

If this doesn't help, I would conduct a very thorough search for malware.

No one program can remove all malware. Start by downloading and running
CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot. Check for updates before running Ad-aware
or Spybot.

If unsuccessful with those programs, you may have to post a HijackThis log
for analysis. Start at
http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=4075 Then go to
http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm Work through the preliminary cleaning
steps then post a HijackThis log to the forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30

Be patient. It's a busy forum.

HijackThis logs are also analyzed at these (and other) forums. Look for the
proper forum and an "Important- Read This First" message so that you follow
proper procedure.
