Can't type in address bar

Using Windows XP with IE6. Not sure when this problem began, but I open IE
to my home page. When page is open I can go to favorites, choose a link and
go to that page. What I cannot do is type anything in the address bar no
matter what web page is showing. Obviously there is a setting in IE
somewhere preventing me from typing in the address bar. Anyone have ideas?
Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is what you're after but you can give it a try:

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > under 'Search from the Address
bar' choose something other than 'Do not search from the Address bar'.

Taking a more cynical point of view, I believe there used to be malware
that placed a phoney Address bar over the real one. The authors of this
mischief relied on the fact that most people leave the Address bar in
the default location. From View > Toolbars remove the Address bar and
see if an Address bar still appears.
