IE6 Address Bar Hangs

In the last couple weeks, my IE6 has stopped working.
Anytime I type an address into the address bar and hit
enter or the go button, my browser locks up, but if I use
links on my homepage or favorites, I am able to navigate.

I went so far as reinstalling Win 2k over my current
installation, which rolled it back to IE 5. That worked
fine, and when I upgraded to IE 6 it seemed to still be
working, but the minute I ran the security updates, it all
reverted back to not working.

Anyone else having these problems?

I just rolled back to IE 5.5 Sp2 - through a download I
found referenced on this site, and evrything works fine --
very strange.
