A user of mine is looking for a way to get rid of the
address auto complete in his TO: field. Any suggestions?

What is the problem? You want only to disable it? Which version of Outlook
do you use?

We are running Outlook 2002. He wants to disable the
feature that automatically suggests an email address from
his Contacts list. Ex. when he types in pete, Outlook
gives him about 3 suggestions of email addresses in his
TO: field from his Contacts list that begins with those
four letter. Usually in the form of a drop down menu.

Thanks for any helpful information you can give!!!

I'm not sure if this was the answer you were looking for but I’ll take a shot
anyways. When you type in a name or address into the To: field and you want
to get rid of some erroneous names, just make sure the name is highlighted
and hit the Delete key on your keyboard. If your question was to simply
disable the AutoComplete on the To: field, what you have to do is the
following (in Outlook 2003). Go to Tools --> Options. In the Preference tab
select E-mail Options. From there click on Advanced e-mail options. You'll
see near the bottom some options relating to Automatic name checking and
Suggest names while completing to. Deselect the desired option and you should
not get the AutoComplete feature anymore.

Just turn off that feature. Look for it in Tools > Options > Preferences >
Email Options... > Advanced Email options...

It would appear as though you have obtained some very good advice/answers to
your user's inquiry. If your user would like to save the contents of the
autocomplete file, you can download our utility at
www.dcs-imaging.com/products.htm. It's called Owtlook. With it, you can
salvage all information in this file and even import it into a contact
folder if the user is interested.
