Adding to start menu

I hope I'm in the right place! I would like to add a couple of things from the desktop to the Start Menu, can anyone please tell me how I can do this? I thought about dragging and dropping but I'm afraid if I do that I might loose it completely!! I'm truly a novice, as if you can't tell!! ​

Drag n drop or cut and paste the shortcut on desktop into the programs folder in the start folder, right click start button and press explore.

Thank you so much, worked great, did the drag and drop; couldn't quite understand the explore though; does that work when looking for any file? It found mine, but it found a few of the same file in different places. What do you do in that instance, click on one to choose? Double click? And then that opens the file?​
