Adding new sata hard drive (amended)

I am running xp mce and trying to add an extra hd (sata) for storage.
I have installed it in the box and connected the data and power cables
but it does not show up in explorer. My two other hds (c & f) show-up
and are running well.
I have tried Partition Magic and Windows disk management but they run
for an hour or more and do nothing.
Could someone tell me how to proceed from here?
Please help if you can.

If that doesn't work, find the SATA drivers and install them

I have a capable W2K also and that had to have the use of F6 on start up to
allow me to access the new Sata Disks I had added to the machine - sorry but
that is the only way - you will generally get the files from the MB CD. Put them
on a floppie before you do anything else - natureally you will put the floppie
in the drive before hitting F6
The XP I have also had to have that treatment before I saw a SATA I was given.

Many thanks to all who helped out.
It is now working fine. I just needed to connect the data cable to a
different terminal on the motherboard.
