Adding Japanese language

I bot a new lap top with XP Pro Service Pack 1 as per the spec and control panel. The disk that came with it is XP Pro SRCD SP1AR3. When I tried to add East Asian language like Japanese and Chinese, it asked me to insert the XP Pro Service Pack 1 disk. I inserted what came with the lap top, it did not work as the i387/lang directory is not to be found with certain files, starting with cplexe.exe... At the Microsoft download, it has SP1A, not SP1. Plus, it is not down loadable with dial up folks. Where and what I need to get to add the Japanese and Chinese language please? Please help. Talking to Gateway the vendor was no help

You need to have purchased the Japanese and Chinese version of Windows to
start with. You can't just switch an English version to a different
language.

Dennis,

Normally, the versions of windows shipped with such PCs are customized
versions, and mostly have only the english language installed. You may not
be able enable the support. If you really need east asian support, you may
have to install a retail version of Windows XP.

I bought a new PC with Windows XP Home Edition. I was
able to add the Japanese Language simply by clicking on
the Control Panel, then clicking on Date,Language, and
Regional Options, and then clicking on Add Other
Languages. I added the Japanese IME Standard version. I
can type in Hiragana, Katakana and also will change to
Kanji. It assumes you have a Japanese Keyboard which I do
not, so I just put little stickers on the keyboard with
the corresponding Japanese letters. Let me know if this
helps.
