Windows Dialog Boxes

How do I set windows to display its dialog boxes in English?

I installed East Asian language files on my computer (Regional Settings,
Languages tab, under Supplemental language support, selected Install files
for East Asian languages) as I had some documents in Japanese I wanted to
view (instead of viewing question marks!)

Anyway now any windows dialog box that pops up, such as the save box from
Microsoft Paint when you close without saving is displayed in Japanese!
Without uninstalling East Asian support, how do I set Windows to default its
display in English?

Keep in mind that installing East Asian support does not add multiple
languages or multiple keyboard layouts in Regional and Language setting
hence there is no Language Bar (which is where I would of expected this to
be able to be changed from)

Yes, I saw this a few years ago (on Windows 2000 possibly) with MS Paint
and sent screen-shots to the ship manager of Windows division (who
acknowledged the mail). So, it *is* a known problem, but I never
followed up on it. Obviously if it's still in Windows XP codebase then
not much happened. Perhaps there is a KB article on the issue.

Set Folder Options to show hidden files and folders *and* to show system
files. Next, locate the file mfc42loc.dll and, if found, check its
properties.

This file tells mfc42.dll what language to use in some dialog and menu
boxes. Installing a program that comes in multiple languages (or installing
an update that is not the same language as the operating system) will
occasionally drop a copy of this file that does not match the user's
language settings. Renaming or deleting the file allows Windows to use the
preferred language settings instead the language noted by the file.

NOTE: Do NOT rename or move the mfc42.dll file. That is a normal file and
should be left alone.

I think I have the same problem with regards to dialog boxes--except that the
language appearing is ,I think, Arabic. I can only think something happened
whilst an auto update occurred because I know of nothing I might have done.I
am not an expert and would appreciate help in getting my files/folders/tabs
back to English.

Thank you for your suggestion.
Sharon F made a similar suggestion to Mike? who appeared to have a
similar problem--suggesting change of file name OR deletion. Having been
unable to make change I deleted file/rebooted but problem is still
there---can you help furtherPLEASE>>>>

Never saw Sharon's reply. All I see is your post as a reply to Mike, my
post and your reply to me.

MFC42LOC.DLL is the only thing that I have seen that seems to cause this.

See if MFC42LOC.DLL is still gone from the system32 folder.

Thank you Wesley-----I have checked file search and file mfc42loc.dll has
been deleted following previous action! There are other .dll files which I
believe I should not touch. Please remember that I am no expert by any
stretch of the imagination!

I am beginning to think that uninstall/reinstall of windows may be only
solution and will cost!!
