Adding hard drive to system

Greeting,

I bought a 60 Gig hard drive which I wish to add to my system but an unable
to get computer to locate it.
I have added it to the ribbon cable in second position and set the pins to
slave however when I start up it wishes to boot from this new hard drive
and does not recognise the old dive. If I remove the new drive the system
works perfectly.
The new drive is 60Gig Hitachi boxed but with no software install disk. .
there is web site support but no help there
My system is AMD 1000 Advent.
Why does BIOS not recognise this new drive as slave when settings are
correct?

regards
Bob

How is your BIOS setup for the new drive? Have you autodetected or if the
system supports Cable Select, is the old drive jumpered CS and the new one
set Slave? If the old drive is set for CS then jumper the new one as such
and be sure that the new drive is connected to the grey second position
plug. Also be sure that the drive has been fdisked and formatted.

Regards,
John O.
