I am filling out some forms using my computer and they ask for my signature.
I need to know how I can do this on the computer.

Depends entirely on what it means by signature.

If it wants you to physically sign and mail the forms, print them out and
hand sign and mail.
If it wants you to put in an electronic certificate signature, you need to
have one created.
If it wants an image of your signature, you need to have your signature
scanned and an image file compatible with the web site created.
Some signature boxes just want a check mark and your typed name as the
signature.

Now, what form are you filling out? Can we see the same form and then we
could advise you better.

I am filling out an application for employment and it has to be sent via the
internet. At the end of the app. it asks for my signature.

This is a test. If you can't figure out how to sign the application, you
won't get hired.

Kidding aside, you didn't say, but odds are that you are filling a pdf
form using Adobe Reader. If that is the case, you may see a "Sign"
button in the signature panel. If you don't see a "Sign" button, click
on the "Document" menu and choose Sign > Sign Document. In either case,
follow the instructions to create a place for the signature, and then
complete the Sign Document dialog box.

If you're not using Adobe Reader, you'll have to identify what program
you're using to view and fill in the form.

In addition to Lem's reply let us know the web site of the application if
Lem's suggestion doesn't help. That way we can go to the site and figure it
out for you, maybe.

Some sites call it a signature, but at least on the ones I use, it's a
code. They gather info from you to verify it's you and then give you a
code that is used as your unique signature.

Print form, sign with a pen, scan it into a file format and email it, upload it or fax it.

{ I hope the job you seek doesn't require this type of simple task }

There seemed to be a word missing from this reply, i.e.
.... scan it into a xxx file format ...
where xxx would most likely be JPEG (.jpg)

I stated "file format" because it could be MS Word, JPEG, TIFF, PDF, etc... I didn't want
to be so specific as to limit the file type.
Personally, I would scan it and create a PDF with PDFCreator.

Stephanie was very vague when she stated "I am filling out some forms using my
computer...". It would have been nice if she stated in what format those forms are. If
it is a form in a MS Word document you can somtimes insert a WMF of a scanned signature.

What I tell people to do is to use a good pen and sign their name on a paper several
times. Then scan the page. Then crop the *best* signature and save that in a Windows
Meta File (WMF). Then they can "insert" the WMF (visual digital) signature into various
documents.

Now we are in the 21st century one can digitally sign a form with a Smart Card. That is
if you have a Smart Card and the appropriate middleware. I often create Adobe PDF forms
using Life Cycle Designer where one can digitally sign the form using the digital
certificate on their Smart Card. Of course I give give rights to Adobe Reader so one can
fill the form and save the data with the form.

I think that covers the various type of signatures...
Digital signatures using PKI certificates.
Graphical file, visual, digital signatures inserted into documents
Hand signed documents scanned into a file format.

In my line of work I do all of the above.

1. Print the form.

2. Fill out the form.

3. Scan the form & save it to your HDD (e.g., as a DOC or PDF file).

4. Attach the DOC or PDF file to your email.

PS: I hope it's not a position in tech support.

If it is a job application - or any of several kinds of applications,
they have an option to allow you to sign it and submit it
electronically, usually after you read a disclaimer, indicate answers
to questions (like "I Accept) by checking boxes that you have read
their information/disclaimers and that you swear or affirm that what
you say is true, accept all their conditions, etc. and after you have
answered all the questions in the affirmative, then... submit your
application.

If you don't answer the questions in the affirmative or miss any
questions, you should not be able to get past the submitting part
until you finish everything properly (if they know what they are
doing).

I have never, ever printed, scanned, signed, faxed, mailed a job
application form that I was filling out on the Internet. Some people
may really want you to print it and sign it and mail it, but they may
just be asking you to sign it electronically. You may want to print
the stuff for your records.

Maybe the really do want you to print it, sign it, mail it, but I have
never had to do that. If you can't figure it out, look for a number
on their page to call for help and see what they want you to do.

Welcome to the 21st century.
