Add WinNT4 server box to XP workgroup

I have a windows NT4 domain server box that has been taken off it's
network. I know very little about NT. There is data on the box that I
need to recover. I would like to connect it to a WinXPP workgroup so I
can copy files that I need from one of the drives on the system to one
of the workgroup boxes. Can anyone point me to an online reference (or
give me some instruction) that would explain how to do this? Normally I
would just pull out the drive and install it in one of the XP boxes to
get to the files, but the server box has SCSI drives and I have no SCSI
controllers.
Any help would be appreciated.

Assuming that WinXPP indicates xp pro, one way is to use one of your xp pro
machines to temporarily join the NT domain, logon to the server and copy the
files over. Unlike xp pro, once an NT4 server has been set up as a domain, it
cannot be converted to a workgroup except by reinstalling NT.

Another way might be to use a USB flash drive, if you can find one with
drivers for NT4.

As long as the server wasn't a domain controller (If it was, the only
way to change it from the domain to a workgroup would be to format the
hard drive and reinstall -- they only way to set a WinNT server's domain
role is during installation of the OS.), you should be able to take it
out of the domain and add it to a workgroup.

If memory serves, right-click My Computer > Properties > Advanced >
Computername....
