add text to list

All,
I have a list created by a series fill.it is stepped by .25
increments. Is there a quick way to add "in" (for "inches") to the
cells without retyping each cell. Kinda misses the point of the fill
option if not

Highlight those cells then click on Format | Cells | Custom, then
enter this custom format:

0.00in

I've tried that. I get an error. The same is for 2003 and 2007
Excel.
