add/remove programs

I have a 2year/old granddaughter that sometimes will get
to the computer and move the mouse and press the buttons
on the keyboard and, as you may expect, the keypresses
are random, at best. I have now noticed that the
add/remove programs applet in the control panel will not
open and so, I can not add/remove programs. This is the
only applet in the control panel that is affected. Does
anyone have a suggestion for what can be done to restore
this function?

Have you tried booting from your windows disk and using
the repair utility? For future, www.ncbuy.com has a screen
saver called 'don't touch my computer 2' that ignores keys
and just makes a dog bark on mouse movement, only the Esc
key will deactivate it. My grandkids love to make the dog
bark and don't get into my system. The screen saver is
free.

This is where System Restore comes in - the intro video for ME had Mom
uses System Restore to unwind the havoc little Johnny wrought this
morning

Close all running applications

Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore

Take 'restore to earlier time', select a point from the day before the
mess up happened, and OK. It will restore things and reboot.

Thank you for your response, I've been away for awhile...
The windows disc works fine up to the point that I'm
asked for a password... I haven't the foggiest notion
what it is as it all came to me from gateway and it is
something that went in when the machine was configured
there. The screen saver will, however, solve the root of
my problem and I'm grateful for your help.
Thanx,

Thank you for your response. I'm uncertain when the
problem began. Would the restore function also take back
new data and programs that were added after the restore
point?

Double click it, save!

Per the top of the page:

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
