Well, from what I can see, the "beta 3" is just a misspelling on MSNBC's
part, as beta 2 was the third beta release...

I think a fair warning to use the Beta is in order, as I have seen some come
close to recommending it.

IE7 Beta 2 has been a pain in the butt for me.

It constantly crashes Visual Studio and ruined the rendering of some apps
that were using Active Desktop...

And when I uninstalled it, it had changed things in the system so not even
Windows Explorer would start after reboot.

But it left marks behind, so I couldn't reinstall IE6 ("newer version exists
on system", go figure...)

Fortunately, I could go in through the Task Manager, run cmd and copy
normaliz.dll (part of the IE7) to the System32 directory, so I could work my
way back into the machine again.

Eh...wasn't it just released yesterday? How can you passably have had
the time to test it probably? Or do you mean the second beta release of
IE7 which was called Beta 1?

I have to correct myself. The second release was called Beta 2 Preview
and not Beta 1.

Oh.. you cannot install Ie6 on top... listen

From the add/remove programs there is a checkmark box on top that says to
show updates,
check that and then look for IE7 in the list and remove it that way.

If you have XPSP2 (wich you must have or else you could not install IE7)
then you CAN NOT
install IE6 because its a part of SP2.....

Tell me if this helps

'Almost final' IE7 tips up
Beta the devil you know
By Andrew Thomas:

Having used the previous pre-release beta releases for some months, I'd say
there's not a lot of difference at first glance, although a number of
dialogue boxes have been smartened up. You still can't move the toolbars
around with the gay abandon offered by IE6, and the damned thing still
doesn't display graphical smileys on the INQ forum - which could be a good
or bad thing depending on your attitude to such things.

It does, however load a lot faster and seems (subjectively) to run faster
than the previous beta. Overall (dons flame-retardant clothing) it makes
FireFerret look positively clunky. Try it, why don't you?

An interesting footnote on the MS site reads: "What's next? Windows Vista
Beta 2, and then Beta 3 of IE7, release candidates, and then a final release
before end of year."

Err, does that mean IE7 proper won't launch until after Vista ships? I'd
download the beta now if I were you or you could die wondering.

If it let me block ads like Firefox, then I'd be interested; but not until then.

Well, the IE7 beta isn't regarded as an "update", so that wouldn't make it
any different than without the chexkbox marked.

But as I said, when I finally came back into my
machine I had other ways to fix it... ;-)

Eeh, that's a catch 22.

No it didn't, but thanks anyway for trying. :)

The "not-possible-to-uninstall" feature of IE7 has been discussed in many
forums, and that's where I found discussions on the "normaliz.dll" problem
as well.

Well, there must obviously be some differences between our machines, so even
if it worked on yours, it didn't work on mine.

Nevertheless, I just gave my 2c of thoughts for those thinking of trying out
IE7.
