add graphic to address bar

I've been seeing more and more sites adding a small graphic, normally a logo, to the address bar, but haven't been able to figure out how to do it. Can anyone clue me in? Thanks!

It is called a favicon, and the file is named favicon.ico
and is placed in the root of your web
where the browser knows how to automatically find
it when your site is added to favorites or a desktop
shortcut is created.

Info here:
