add&delete icons from only one used

When I add a program icon to my user desktop it adds it
to all my kids individual desktops and when they delete
it from there desktop it deletes it from mine. How can I
delete the icons from their desktop but leave them on
mine?

I believe that you need to set yourself up as Administrator, and the kids as
limited.
maybe someone else can be more detailed.
