Desktop icons - decouple users

I'm using Vista 64 bit. I'm set up as the administrator and there's one
standard user. We each have our own desktops, but when the user deletes icons
from hers thay are deleted from mine as well. And when I add them back to my
desktop they reappear on the user's too.

Is there a way to decouple the desktops so that they do not share icons and
we manage them separately? This seems to me to be such a common requirement
(doesn't everyone want to work like this?) that I'm sure I must be missing
something!

I think I've found the answer to my own question - it seems there's something
called a public dektop, which contains icons common to all users, in addition
to the users' own desktops. It looks like the icons we've been deleting and
restoring have been in this public desktop so I'm going to try to move them
to my own instead.

Please therefore ignore my original post.
