When I try to add an animated graphic (.gif) in an Outlook message, it just
inserts an icon, not the moving GIF. This applies regardless of using Word
as the e-mail editor or not.

You as the sender will not see the animation. Your recipient, however,
should.

Good theory Brian, but there is no option to insert a picture on the "Insert"
menu.

Hi Dave,

No he does not.
The Microsoft article says select "Insert" > "Picture", but the Insert menu
does not have the option "Picture"!!!!

What menu items do you see in the Insert menu? I see Break, Page Numbers,
Date and Time, Autotext, Field, Symbol, Comment, Reference, Web Component,
Picture, Diagram, Text Box, File, Object Bookmark, and Hyperlink for that
version of Word. When using the Outlook editor, I see File, Item,
Signature, Horizonal Line, Picture, Hyperlink, and Remove Hyperlink.

Brian,

Very interesting - I don't. I only get File, Item, Object (greyed out and
Signature
If you know why this discrepancy arises, please tell me.

Click Help>About and post what you see. Are you in a work envirnment or a
home environment?

Brian,

If you think know the answer tell me, otherwise, stop asking stupid
irrelevant questions.

If you're so smart you know they're irrelevant, then you answer your own
question. I'm done.

The answer is simple - in an enterprise environment, Office is often
configured with restricted options. In this particular case the ability to
insert GIFs.

I suspect that Brian Tillman knew this all along, but instead of asking a
few simple questions and suggesting the answer, he does one question per
post, waits for the reply, then asks another question, waits for the post,
then asks another question.
Obviously someone who is not very good at fault resolution and has lots of
time to waste!

You're suspicions are full without merit. Since I am not an AD or Exchange
administrator, I have no idea what can be or cannot be restricted in an
Enterprise environment. I did the best I could with the informaiton I had.
