Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4

I had Adaptec's Easy CD Creater 4 CD burning software
already loaded onto computer before upgrading my system to
XP. Now come to find that the drivers for this software
are not compatible with XP.
Is there a free patch or upgrade to fix this? the Adaptec
(roxio.com) website says there is no available patch for
this, you need to buy the newer version instead...

Thanks!

There are 2 newer versions, both of which work with Windows XP. Time to
update your software.

It is usually possible to get Easy CD 4 to work in XP provided you leave
out the Direct CD and Take Two. Procedure:

Get the patch from www.roxio.com to take your version to 4.05

Uninstall the whole present collection, ending up by using regedit.exe
to delete
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adaptec
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adaptec

There will be loose ends in the registry - To tidy up, get a registry
patch file, cdgone.reg, from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract
it, r-click on it and merge it into the registry

Then reboot to start clean, and install your version of Easy CD Creator
*only* without Direct CD or Take Two; when its setup exits, without
rebooting, run the update to 4.05, and reboot.

But if the result gives trouble, cut your losses on it. Roxio will only
sell a later version (now 6.0) at full price, or go to Nero or to
Veritas's RecordNowMAx Platinum from www.stompinc.com (boxed set)

Darren,

ECDC, ver 4 WILL work on WinXP. (Direct CD and Take Two don't)

First, go to Roxio and get the latest update patch for ver 4 and save it.
Next, you need to remove what you have now, then install it again and (this
is important) do NOT elect to install Direct CD nor Take Two.

Also, after setup prompts for a reboot, DECLINE and apply the latest
upgrade patch for ver 4, then you can let the system reboot when prompted.

This works fine with XP as long as you understand that version 4 of Direct
CD and Take Two do not work with XP but ECDC does.

If you want these, then you will have to go to version 6 of Roxio, or go to
Nero, etc.
