upgrade issues

I upgraded to Windows XP and now the Adaptec Easy CD
Creator 4 isn't working. Is there a download somewhere
because the cd that came with my computer isn't compatible
with XP. Or do I have to bite the bullet and buy a new
program?

Hi, Debbie. No, I'm afraid you have to buy an upgrade. Go to the Roxio
Easy CD site (it isn't owned by Adaptec any more). Be sure you
uninstall the old program first if you made the mistake of installing
it.

You can probably get Easy CD 4.05 working if you have only it, following
these steps.

Get the download from www.roxio.com to bring your version up to 4.05

Uninstall the present one - all components, especially Direct CD and
Take Two. This leaves orphaned entries in the registry - To tidy up,
get a registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from
www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and merge
it into the registry

Then install your CD, the Easy CD Creator only, *not* the others, and at
exit, before rebooting run the upgrade to 4.05 and reboot.

That will probably work: if it doesn't you have to get biting bullets

Do a Google for "Easy CD Creator 5 basic" and you'll find
many sources for XP versions of EZCD, such as
http://www.buycheapsoftware.com/details.asp?productID=1055

There will be an update to that but it will work very well
and doesn't cost a bundle.

Jim,
Yikes these guys have good prices ! In reading the FAQ's on the site, it
sounds like its all legal software and not copies. Have you found this to be
true ? Roxio 5 for $13 sounds unreal (good) to me.
