I had adaptec easy cd creator on another computer, that computer was stolen
and the new laptop came with xp and something called B's basic gold, which
quite frankly is giving me a lot of problems. So , here is my question:

What cd writing program should I use, I am completely confused, I would like
to use cdrw on other computers and it seems that if you use adaptec on one,
then it doesn't work on other programns, Anyway, could someone clear this
up for me.

I've used Adaptec. It works well enough but can cause conflicts
with other installed software. Right now I'm using B's Gold 5. It
works well, although I did need to reinstall it when, for some
reason, it lost its copying function. I have Nero loaded, and it
is probably the best of the three. I'd recommend Nero.

If you burn a CD, it will work in any computer and in any music
player, provided there were no errors in its creation. It doesn't
matter which program you used to burn it. The settings are
important, not the program. Disks must be closed to work on some
older music players. Some older players don't like CD-RWs at all,
and refuse to read them. There's nothing that can be done about
these limitations.

Newer version of Easy CD Creator - now called Easy Media Creator - aren't
problematic. However many people enjoy Nero.

If you want a very good alternative try CDBurnerXP Pro
http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ It has no nags, no spyware, no spam and is
completely free.

The Packet writing mode (as used in Adaptec Direct CD/Drag to Disk) is
temperamental, and only works well if you have the same package on both
machines. Many people - if they use it at all - will quite likely be
using Nero and its InCD

I would not use that method for data interchange. Use regular 'ISO
Sessions' made with say Easy CD Creator or Nero, and if you want use
CD-RW disks and erase as a whole when the data is finished with. Though
at the price of CD-R these days I don't bother with CD-RW at all any
more.

I know nothing of B's basic gold. Apart from the two I mentioned, the
other one I would suggest is RecordNow from www.sonic.com - but they all
have trial versions
