My AD allocates on 3 sites connected by slow lease line. Now I want to upgrade the AD from W2K to W2K3 for Exchange2K3. My plan is below
1. Upgrade all existed DC to SP
2. Install a new W2K/SP4 machine, join domain, install and transfer DNS data, then dcprom
3. Trans FSMO and enable GC on this new machin
4. upgrade the new DC to W2K
5. setup.exe /forestprep on this W2K
6. setup.exe /domainprep on this W2K
7. install Exch2K3 on this W2K
8. Done (All other DCs keep on Win2K
My question is
1. Does the plan work?
2. How and When to check the schema upgrade is done

Hi,

Go thru the Upgrading Windows 2000 Domains to Windows Server 2003 Domains
at
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/all/deploy
guide/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/all/de
ployguide/en-us/DSSBF_UPWN_OVERVIEW.asp

Also go thru the planning to upgrade windows 2000 to windows 2003 and
complete the pre-upgrade tasks.Use the post upgrade tasks to find out FSMO
roles and other domain masters are transfered successfully.

Sincerely,
