AD to NT domain trust problem for *one* specific domain

I hope somebody can help me out here....

I have been trying to figure out why I cannot create a trust between my
Windows 2003 native domain and *one* particular NT 4 domain... I have
successfully created trusts to other NT domains but not this one...

I'm not using WINS, just a local LMHOSTS file (which follows the 20 chars
guidelines, with / appearing on the 16th etc etc).

The output of nbtstat -c looks good, however nltest /dsgetdc:problemdomain
returns
DsGetDcName failed: Status = 1355 0x54b ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN whereas returns
valid information for my other NT4 domains.

Thanks
Mikey.

Mike,

I would suggest installing the Newest versions of NetDom on both machines
(yes, it will work on NT4) and then establish your trusts that way. I have
found that to be reliable and it has helps me in all of my migrations. The
gui tools are great for just turning a trust on and off, but NetDom gives
you a lot more control.

If you are using LMHOSTS make sure you have designated your entries as
domains and not hosts. From there, it should be smooth sailing.Just form
your trust using the PDC and PDC emulator role-holders to be sure.

Every NetBIOS name has EXACTLY 16 characters.
(The '20' is an artifact of the way you represent the last
character in hex, e.g. 0x1D which turns one character
into 4 visual and should give 19 total.)

Since you say 20 characters, chances are you are
counting out the wrong number. Counting the Hex
code as 1, you must have EXACTLY 16 characters.

Thanks a lot Ryan and Herb. - I managed to create my trust successfully
through Netdom.
