Ad hoc networking

The "set up a connection or network" screen in my Vista Home Premium does
not show the "Set up an ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network" option. How
do I set up ad hoc networking then?
Please help.
Thanks.

I assume that you want to set up a wireless ad hoc network. There's
no such thing as a wired ad hoc network.

I don't have a Home Premium computer to test on, so I'm not sure
whether Home Premium supports wireless ad hoc networking. I haven't
heard that it doesn't.

In Ultimate, the "Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer)
network" option only appears if the computer has a wireless network
adapter installed and enabled.

Thanks Steve,
Now I understand that I have mixed up my terminology. What I really want to
do here is to sometimes connect my Vista PC to a desktop XP PC via direct
cable connection. When I plug in the network cable into both PCs, I can get
a "limited" connection to an "unidentified network" but can't see the XP PC
I'm connecting to (from the XP PC as well).
Using XP in the past this type of connection could easily be created using
the Network Setup wizard. Is there a compatibility problem or maybe Home
Premium lacks this option?

best regards,
YHA

The similar functionality you are talking about from the "Network Setup"
wizard in XP is now buried deeper in Vista. Go to the Network and Sharing
Center and open up "Manage network connections", press the Alt key to get the
classic menu and then under File open up "New Incoming Connection". This
should set up your direct connection.

Thanks
