Ad-Aware

Downloaded an update to Ad-Aware this morning, then started a scan. It
showed 32 critical objects within a minute, then an error box came
up with "System is shutting down, initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM"
System Process WINDOWS\system32\services.exe was terminated with
status code 0. System will shut down and reboot.
After a while, this warning disappears, the scan "appears" to
continue, but I'm bumped off as administrator, and the whole shebang
seems to lock up. I have to reset to reboot.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Ad-Aware, ran it fine without updates,
then updated and got the problem again.
No-Adware, Spybot S&D, A-Squared, all tell me I have no
problems/infections.
Anyone else getting similar problem?

Can you post the Ad-Aware update level code?

I have the same except that I'm running the Pro version, don't know if
that makes any difference. I've just run it with no problems although it
certainly seemed to slow down other programmes a lot more than normal
but it at least finished the scan without any problems.

Thanks, I've got that and already run it w/o any problems.

Have you tried d/l it again? - you may have to delve into the folder
and delete the existing copy.

No, we are talking here about the latest version of the Ad-Aware
definitions file - on my PC it's:

C:\ProgramFiles\Ad-Aware SE Personal\defs.ref

- not the program itself. I meant go into the folder and delete
this dfes file and re-download it through the Ad-Aware program.

I haven't ever needed to do this but I guess it would work.

I'd initially had AdAware working until I d/l the latest definition,
which caused the problem.
I uninstalled AdAware, redownloaded and reinstalled it, then scanned
OK *without* updating the definitions file. I then updated it, and got
exactly the same problem again as before.
FWIW using WinXP - fully updated. I think I'll sit it out until the
next update.

That's weird.
I've used the latest def file w/o problems on my XP-Pro-SP2 system.
I think sitting it out is probably the best option at the moment.
