Hi PA,

From my reading and understanding it appears that AdAware 2007 Free is
a "free" trial version only? Do you or anyone else know if that is the
case? I haven't tried this version so I don't know, and I'm too lazy to
try so I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this.

The version downloaded from
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php is free, not
free-trial.

As Bear says, the free version is free indefinitely, it's not a trial
version.

FWIW, in my experience (YMMV) Ad-Aware 2007 appears to be hard-coded to
display in 1024x768, so if it's used in safe mode with the default VGA
driver, it's a little difficult to see all of its windows and control
buttons (no scroll bars). It still works fine in safe mode, but it's
easier if you become familiar with the interface in normal mode before
trying to use it in safe mode.

I'm getting messages that my Ad-Aware data base is 16 days old. It's
not updating when I ask for an update. Is anyone else seeing this?
Is it just me?

You have the free version. Nothing to compain about.

I hope that everybody has finally figured out how
to get the free 2007 version and everyone is
protected.

I always ran AW at least weekly and usually
nothing was found except an occasional tracking
cookie. But the first time I ran the updated 2007
version it found way over 100 tracking cookies,
and a similar number on my laptop.

They must have broadened the definition of a
tracking cookie, so that now it removes stuff that
the old SE version ignored.

I really appreciate products such as AW and AVG
and SpyBotSD and others that make their products
available without cost to home users. I fear that
the internet would be unusable without them.

Ok, thanks. Following that link leads to

It's probably just that the wording on that site is confusing, to me at
least!

Capitalism and fuzzy internet marketing at work here.

Clicking on the first DOWNLOAD button (for Ad-Aware 2007 Free; top of page)
will take you to yet another page listing several download mirrors:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/single/mirror_download.php?f=g2Obc772A

The other download button is for a 12-month free trial (with lots of
strings, I'm sure) of Ad-Aware 2007 Plus (FKA Ad-Aware Pro).

Ad-Aware has never included real-time protection.

Sure it has... if one purchases the "Pro" version, or whatever it's
called.

That version comes with "Ad Watch" which provides real-time
protection.
