ad-aware from lavasoft is a parasite!!!!

It is true. Look at the pictures from moon made by the astronauts in the
1970's. The earth looks like a flat pancake.

someone

And now you will get tons of junk email because you put
your email address in your post. Who will you blame for that?

Looks to me like you are falling for some hype from the REAL popup
culprits. I have run adaware for a long time now, and have NEVER gotten
popups from it.

Either you have fallen for a hoax, or else you are a troll. Or maybe
you are one of the people that write stuff that adaware is designed to
block and you are trying to get people to uninstall it so that your crap
can work.

yeah right

We all would love to see what you read about Ad-Aware. Why
don't you post the information and the source so we can all
be IBM PC Specialists? Are you going to tell us that
Ad-Aware is sending you all the spam you will soon be
getting,too?
Do you have a brother named Ricky?

Hey, leave Ricky alone.

Yeah that sounds very intelligent. Lets do that. How do we round the
up though? Lavasoft's people are in Sweden

Word of warning, I read today that ad-aware from lavasoft can caus
pop-up
to appear and they apparently lay the blame on some spyware program
sounds fishy to me. I would un-install ad-aware if I were you, unti
they resolve their issues

i use a custom hosts file that has all the pop up sites in it, when your system does a lookup for the site, it looks here first. the ip address is set to 0.0.0.0 or 127.0.0.1. Pieced it together with several that i found on the internet. wrote a batch file to switch between host files in case i need to get to a site that the blocker host won't let me. i have used it on several clients and they love it. e-mail me if you want a copy of it...

Never "seen" this happen. If I ever do, then I'll consider how a few popups are more parasitic than the destruction I "have seen" from not using Ad-Aware.

Please reply to news group.

If Ad-Aware is a parasite, then why does PC World Magazine keep
recommending it?

Now I can't speak for everyone, nut I have had NO PROBLEMS with ad-aware. I am not saying that their isn't any problems but it has worked great for me and I will continue to use it.
All I could say is try it if it acts funny delete it

Addressing your allegation:
- A true "IBM PC Tech" would take this issue up with Lavasoft - REPORTING THE ORIGINATION of what s/he read...
- A true "IBM PC Tech" would already know HOW TO DETERMINE if the issue is true (ever hear of "netstat" as a tool to check for in/out connections) - or you can install additional software if you feel the need - like Verio or Zone Alarm....
- A true "IBM PC TEch" wouldn't accuse - he'd ASK FOR CONFIRMATION from the IT community when s/he reads something like this....instead of posting it

Gerry - I'd recommend that your future posts be restricted to confirmed issues or requests for additional info - don't make them accusatory in nature w/o supporting your position. We'd all love to know if it's true (obviously it's not - I use Lavasoft and it makes NO connection unless I specifically request it -- and that would be the upgrade --).

Lavasoft's Ad-Aware is w/o a doubt one of the best contributions any individual or company has made to the IT community. It's free, it does a thorough job in STANDARD mode w/o all the extras. Spy-Bot's another and there's plenty more excellent FREE utilities.

By repeating rumors or "hear-say" you undermine your own credibility and leave yourself open to legal recourse. Lavasoft makes a good product. Unsubstantiated and public defamation of their software treads a legal fine line...

Hatter:

Gerry O has been making a crusade throughout the Microsoft News Group hierarchy and defaming
Ad-Aware.

This SOB has an agenda. What that agenda is we who have seen his BS (those in the MS Virus
related News Groups) don't know but we have come to recognize it for what it is. A "crusade
against" and an "agenda" of unknown origins or reasons.

Sorry. I strongly disagree!!! I run AdAware almost daily and it gets rid of spyware that slow's down my machines-I have 3, And I can honestly say that it works just as advertised!!! I've had extreme problems in the past and it does what it's supposed to do. It also solved problems with two other machines in the family. The local computer store I deal with installs the program on new machines as a matter of course. If pop-ups appear due to this program, I can live with it!!! Gerry, do some more research!!!
