While surfing E-Bay listings I'm getting this message pop-up:

"Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this
page. As a result, the page may not display correctly"

I Click the OK. AFAIK the page looks fine. But the message reappears with
each new item page.

I reviewed the ActiveX security settings in Tools | Internet Options |
Security [Internet Custom Level]

While most were set to "Enable" a couple were set to "Prompt". I reset all
to "enable" but I keep getting the message.

Any ideas?

Please let me know if you find a solution for this
problem. I am suffering from the same conditions.
Thank you.

Try re-registering the following .dll files (WinXP)
Softpub.dll
Wintrust.dll
Initpki.dll
Urlmon.dll

1. Click Start >Run and type
regsvr32 Softpub.dll
Click okay to register it
You should get a dialog box telling you that it was successful.
2. Repeat the process for the other .dll files.
3. Restart your computer and try the update site again.

if the above doesn't help -

Note: Versions 5.00.3809 & 5.00.3810 are Security Fixes for version 5.00.3805.
Download and Install version 5.00.3805 (full version) first before installing
the upgrade(s).
Run the installation check which is available on the side of the page.

I reset all to "enable" but I keep getting the message.

Try taking your diagnosis in the opposite direction.
You weren't getting any prompts; so those settings are unlikely to have been
involved. Instead what you can do is turn all promptable settings into
prompts and see if a sequence of Yeses gives you any better clues.

Another thing to consider is that some sites use About:Blank as a base
for building menus and popups; so if you have it in a different zone,
especially the Restricted zone that could account for your symptom.
If that is the case but you don't see any clear sign of it being the cause
you might also try changing all promptable settings in the Restricted zone
into prompts as well.

Don't forget to change each changed zone back to its Default Level
after your testing is over.

If there is a specific public page which you are having difficulty with,
post a link and list the prompts and messages that you are getting
with it.

I get it also on eBay and only eBay. Do not get the message on all of
the pages but most of them. Wonder if it is them and not us.
Just a thought.

Me, too. I get it on eBay and only eBay. I've changed numerous
settings, but to no avail.
