ActiveX control Errors

I have struggled with this problem for almost 2 years, When I first got this
computer( Dell Dim 2400, Pentium 4,128 MB of Ram, running Windows XP home
Edition ver.2002), I had a problem getting on secure sites and downloading
Windows updates. After a lot of searching, I found something about
reregistering my dll files which I did. I was then able to get updates and
most secure sites, only I couldn't use free virus scans on places that use
activex such as Symantec and McAfee. Now trying to get SP2 I'm getting the
same error again,"Your current settings prohibit using ActiveX"...Auto update
is on but not working, ActiveX settings are on default, security set at
med-low, cannot update from site. I also cannot download Java. I have Java on
Netscape, but it doesn't work on IE. I know this is probably all simple to
you guys but I'm going nuts here! Please help and Thanks

Enable ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer
Start Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Select the Security tab.
Select the Internet Web zone icon.
To adjust the security level, click Default Level.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Try Windows Update again.

Try re-registering the following .dll files
Softpub.dll
Wintrust.dll
Initpki.dll
Urlmon.dll

1. Click Start >Run and type
regsvr32 Softpub.dll
Click okay to register it
You should get a dialog box telling you that it was successful.
2. Repeat the process for the other .dll files.
3. Restart your computer and try the update site again.
