ActiveSync always launching

I have a PC that on rare occasions I use for development. I loaded
ActiveSync so I could work with a PDA. But now, every time I use the PC
it launches ActiveSync and asks me to connect the device.

How can I turn the ActiceSync program launch on and off as I desire? Is
it a service? Is there a setting in the registry?

I've searched the web, but haven't found a solution.

Open the Connection Settings from the ActiveSync window and uncheck all of
the connection types except USB.
