I use McAfee Security Center along with Defender without any problems, except
that Defender alerts to McAfee cleanup program whant to run at start up after
downloading virusscan update. This may be an issue involving IE activeX
settings. McAfee needs active scripting to be allowed for downloading and
running scans. I keep my IE settings very tight, so I have put McAFee in the
trusted zone to allow it ro run properly. If the IE activeX settings are too
restrictive, McAfee will not run. I cannot imagine why Defender would be
stopping McAfee, except that cleanup program that simply needs to be allowed.
This is off topic, BUT - there are a finite range of choices for anti-virus.
McAfee has good detection record, but I am finding a continuing problem with
corrupted components. IN other word, it "breaks easily." Forget Symanatec.
I understand that Kapersky is excellent but that it is a beast, hard for some
machines to handle. Any info on that? What is your preference?
Way to go Plun! I have enough trouble with GM anti-virus program w/o using a
beta one. One beta anti-spyware is almost too much beta for me.
