active sync with window calendar and contacts

No, ActiveSync (WMDC on Vista) can only work with Office Outlook.

Can anybody in the name of whatever god you believe in tell my WHY ISN'T THIS
POSSIBLE? I received Outlook XP with my WM phone and it doesn't work with my
Office 2007. There is no way I am shelling out more money for Outlook. I'd
rather buy and iPhone and switch to mac while I am at it.
I really don't get it. Why a WINDOWS Mobile device cannot sync with WINDOWS
calendar?
What does the "Sync" button do, then?

In the Windows world, Outlook has always been required if you need to sync
with a mobile device. This is not a new Vista requirement. Most mobile
devices like PDAs come with a copy of Outlook. Because Vista needed
to change to a different and more secure mechanism, versions of Outlook
older than 2003 are not fully compatible.
