Active applications not showing on taskbar

This seems like an inane question, but I can't figure it out. Something
happened, in my settings or somewhere, so my active applications are no
longer showing in my taskbar. I only show quicklaunch, but if, for
example, I have open Outlook, Word, and Firefox, I should see those
active applications...

What am I missing here?

What version of IE? IE7 uses tabs instead of the taskbar. If you have IE6,
try unlocking the taskbar and using the handles to move the Quick Launch bar
down to a smaller size to show the main taskbar.

Oops--please ignore the IE question ( I switch forums and forgot where I was)
and try moving the taskbar handles to find your missing main taskbar.

Thanks - your tweak did the trick. I assume it's a registry key problem
- can you tell me what the problem is/was?

Thanks very much

I have the same trouble. I think it stated after an auto update that
installed KB911280. Ran 2 different spy-ware and 2 different virus scans.
Called Microsoft support, they were unable to help.
