Signed on and having a hard time activating.
First day so I am learning the way around.
Also cannot update I assume that is because I need to
activate and reg.
 
If you're having trouble with online activation, call the phone number that
is displayed on the activation screen. Explain your situation and you'll be
given an activation code to enter. I had to do that one time. Took less than
5 minutes.

You do not have to register - at all. And right now there are problems
with the internet trunk on the US West coast, so access to the
activation center on the net *may* be affected. But try daily. Do not
respond at the reminder, but get on the net, then go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows
and use the 'activate on the internet now. It should go through within
30 seconds if the center can be reached. The registration (of you as
owner) is only relevant if you may want to take up the two free
'telephone support incidents' for a retail copy of windows.
