Activation Problems

Hi,

I have recently bought Win XP as my machine was loaded with a bogus copy.

My machine no says 'This machine requires activating' and then logs off
whenever I start it, in safe mode or in normal.

It will get to a logon screen, and it seems to get to desktop but then
reverts to logon screen again.

I was hoping this process would be easy !!

Well did you install the new retail copy of xp.........If new not
installed,then
install the cd,boot to the xp cd,select install,new copy,delete the
partition,
create one,then xp formats and installs auto.

I don't want to loose all my setting and files though.

I think your method will blow all my files and apps.

Otherwise a Repair Installation should work:

Data and settings should be safe, back-up important data first just in case.
But both must be the same, you can not use Windows XP Home to perform a
Repair Installation if existing installation is Windows XP Pro.
